FINCA ALLENDE
Located in the hill town of Briones in Rioja Alta, 'Allende' can be roughly translated as 'further'; its philosophy is to go further and further towards creating the perfect Rioja. The winery is the creation of one of Spain’s finest winemakers, Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, and his sister Mercedes. These are serious, long lived wines, derived from mainly Tempranillo vines aged 45-60 years that are immersed in iron-rich clay. These continue to receive stunning reviews from the world’s most respected wine writers.
We also have Finca Nueva, which is Allende’s younger sibling, based on 20 separate hectares of largely calcareous soils around Briones. Finca Nueva was created as a device to shrug aside the constraints of Riojan tradition and allow the talented and influential Miguel Ángel a wider scope for his skills, crafting expressions with a new generation of wine drinkers in mind.
